Now that I'm retired, I figure I should get more opportunities to visit Michigan's lighthouses. Starting with this one, right in my own backyard: the William Livingstone Memorial Light on Belle Isle. In April 2009, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum put on an exhibit called "L is for Lighthouse". After taking in the exhibit, I went over to the memorial for some pictures. |

The memorial is surrounded with a wrought iron fence, but the padlock clasp has broken. Apparently it now serves double duty as a dog run. |

This side faces the water and bears the inscription: is erected by the Lake Carriers Association and Citizens of Detroit to honor the memory of William Livingston President Lake Carriers Association 1902 - 1925 And throughout his active life one of the most prominent and public citizens of Detroit. 1844 - 1925 |
