New additions to my lighthouse pagesMy sister, Lynn, and I recently had an opportunity to spend part of a Saturday in the Port Huron area. An excellent chance to visit the Lightship Huron and the Fort Gratiot Light. |

Citizen Sky ProjectLaunched as part of the International Year of Astronomy, this project by the AAVSO is intended to enlist the aid of everyone to observe the dimming and brightening of Epsilon Aurigae as it undergoes a predicted eclipse of 600 days out of a 27.1 year cycle. The eclipse seems to be underway now and you can catch up on the latest developments at the Citizen Sky site. For my part, I have tried to come up with a logo for it. |

365 Days of AstronomyHere's a fascinating podcast series to check out. I enjoy it enough that I sponsored an episode (January 31). This is how they describe themselves: "The 365 Days of Astronomy Podcast is a project that will publish one podcast per day, for all 365 days of 2009. The podcast episodes are written, recorded and produced by people around the world." | ![]() | |
Astronomy running amuckBrian found a new hobby - astronomy. First clue we had was when he announced he'd gone and tried to buy a telescope, only to be rebuffed by a cranky astronomer who wouldn't sell him a scope until he'd done more research. Brian has since gone back and picked up a nice little 6" schmidt-cassegrain. We've checked out Jupiter, Saturn, M31 (the Andromeda Galaxy)and burned the moon's image into our retinas (6 in. scopes sure pull in a lot of light!). |

Barn RaisingWhen we put in the last (latest?) extension on our patio, I had the cement guys put a pad in for a shed. I finally got together with Matt and Brian and got the barn up and going. |

Adventures in MaclandOur home is slowly but surely going Apple. I started with a Mac Mini, added a MacBook, got Brian interested and he has a couple machines, then got Lois on a MacBook Pro. Finally, for Father's Day, the kids and Lois got together and bought me an Apple TV. It's been great fun, especially now that I can watch YouTube on it (weird stuff!). |
